Result- Oxford Mixed vs Farnborough vs Newbury 11.02.2007

Match report from Neil ‘The Smasher’ Smith - Mixed game 11th Feb 2007

Squad: Matt, Bev, Chrissie, Lorna, Mathais, Rune, Jason, Neil

This was a home game for oxford so we had to Ref the 1st match Newbury v Farnborough, Matt took the stand and Rune 2nd ref. The match pasted without any incident that gave the refs any trouble. Newbury took the game.

Oxfords 1st match of the day (Farnborough) was also Jasons 1st match ever, so to make it easy for him we played him though the middle. The game started with Matt and Neil on the bench. The first set was quite close as it took a while for the 6 to get sorted into a team but by the end of the set oxford played some good volleyball with all hitting well and getting a good pass into Mathais. The only questions on the 1st set was when did Jason learn to block and why Sue (1st ref) called chrissie up ever time she set the ball, I don’t think we will ever get to the bottom of these! Won the set 25 - 20

2nd set Matt and Neil came on for Rune and Jason. No change to the rest of the team, Bev, Chrissie and Lorna hitting well this was the main difference between the teams, with Lorna hit with each hand making it hard for Farnborough to block, We think this is her secrete weapon why she got player of the match! Jason came back on for Neil after he had a shocking serve. The team went on to win the set 25 – 13 winning 2-0.

Next match (Newbury) This was a cracking game to play in, there is always a little bit of sporting chat across the net! (I know most from me! sorry not!)

Jason and Rune started on the bench this match, now I can’t remember quite as much on this game mainly because I played in most of it (and we lost). The set seemed to last for ages with no one pulling away but Oxford took the set 31 – 29 (get in there!!!)

The next set Newbury just played very well with V. Tep the main difference between the sides. Oxford also seemed to get more upset with some interesting ref calls. Newbury took the set 25 – 12

So to the last set, once again Oxford did very little wrong but got out played again to Mr Tep, not sure how he did not get player of the match, this set went to Newbury 15 – 9 and they won 2-1. Still a good game to play.

We then went out for some food got home late all good….

Jason did take some photos on the day but none were up to the volleyball standard we are used to, however I enjoyed going though them! Cheers
