2014-2015 season highlights!

The 2014-2015 season has been a fantastic one for OVC, with 7 teams in the BVA league, 1 NVL team and funding secured to build 2 beach courts in Oxford. We also have more qualified coaches and referees than ever before and we even have our own band too!

Here are some team highlights, as provided by captains at our AGM, together with the results of the OVC votes for player of the season for each:
Oxford Ladies 1 – Ladies 1 had a great second season in the NVL, only losing 2 games, which resulted in a promotion to Division 2 (North). Most Valuable Player of the whole division was our very own Sonia, OVC player of the season was Federica.
Eagles- a mixed season with inconsistent matches, some very good wins and some poor losses, the team had suffered from injury and some long term absences. Eagles finished 4th in BVA Women’s division 1 and won the BVA Plate. Karina won the BVA division MVP, OVC player of the season was Vicky.
Falcons – a new team so the first season for the Falcons. No coach for the season, won a few sets but no matches (yet! Watch this space for next season...).Player of the season, Kate.
Vollox – lost a few more games than last season but finished in 1st place in the BVA Men’s division 1. 7 players went to the SEVA cup but due to injury lost in the semi- finals. Jon won the BVA division MVP and OVC player of the season.
Bulls – The bulls stayed in BVA Men’s division 1 after aiming to finish mid-table. It was a tough season due to consistency of performance and attendance of players. The division is tough as the top of the table is high level volleyball. Bulls finished 4th place overall.Player of the season, Ben.
Bullox - as a new team this was the Bullox first season.  They won 4 matches and showed fantastic team effort, passion and great improvement throughout the season. Bullox finished 4th in BVA Men’s division 2. Player of the season, Matt.
Globetrotters – good season overall, finished 3rd in the mixed division and reached the semis in the BVA Plate.
Sharks – best season to date, Sharks finished 1st place in the mixed division. Stefano M. won OVC Mixed player of the season.
Misc OVC awards - Nadia won player of the season for the Owls, Stefano L won the Thursday player award and Maite won the HoHo award (ask her what it was for...).

Our junior members have been making great progress, with fabulous results in the BVA junior tournaments. And OVC have made waves on the beach courts too, with our Croyde weekend being the best attended to date. There was also success amongst Oxford players in the Croyde King and Queen of the Beach tournament: Corne won the 5th division, Tina Weber won the 2nd division and Gareth and Jansi finished in the top 3 of the tournament.

We finished the season with a fantastic outdoor tournament in the park - results and some photos to follow soon!

We look forward to an equally amazing 2015-2016 season!
