Little housekeeping…

Just a quick post tonight to let you know you can now access the ladder directly from the website:

  • Either through the link at the top of the page

  • Or via the “other” link on the right hand side of the page

So you don’t have any excuse for not joining in ;-)

Also, the rules section of the ladder has been updated to reflect “our” rules.

GAME ON!

Julien

The 2-a-side ladder is up and running !

She did it! The dream has come true :-)

Here is what Kerstin sent us earlier today:

“Hey 2 a side volleyball fans

A volleyball ladder has been set up for any kind of team (men’s, ladies, mixed) to participate.  This is at

http://sports-ladder.net/vollox/

So here’s the plan.  Find a partner (same gender or mixed) and register as a team on the website (where it asks for your first name, put in something like ‘Kerstin and’ where it asks for your surname, put in something like ‘Ania’ - in this way your team name will be ‘Kerstin and Ania’).  Players can be anybody who is interested in volleyball.

From then on, teams can challenge those one or two spots above them online.  Teams have 14 days to either meet the challenge or concede.  The result is fed into the website by the winning team, and the rankings are then adjusted.

Matches can either be played in the Gym (Lean Machine) of Unipart Group, Unipart House, Garsington Road, Oxford, OX4 2PG (on a Badminton sized court!!!) or on the grass.

The challenger is responsible for booking the sports hall by calling 01865-383366. Opening hours are Mo-Fr 6am-9pm and Sa-Su 10am-3pm. Costs for the hall are £1.50 per hour per person. Parking and changing facilities are provided. You will need to bring a ball.

Matches must adhere to indoor volleyball rules with the exception that tipping is NOT allowed. The exact format (eg how many sets) can be agreed between the teams.

The twos ladder is a new idea, and hasn’t been run before.  Therefore, we reserve the right to alter regulations or impose new ones if things don’t work.  Things like, how many spots above you can challenge or the length of time a challenge can rest, can be adjusted on the website.  At the moment, Julien and I are administrators for the ladder.
If you have any feedback on how to run the ladder more effectively, let us know.

Every team can at any time enter or leave the ladder. Player changes should only occur for good reasons (e.g. a player moving away or has no time to play at all).

Thanks for participating and see you on court.

Kerstin

PS: The ladder will also be open to UNIPART employees and we might easen the rules for them. In the end it’s all about having fun.”

The more the merrier!

Have a look here, pencils the dates and let your team captain if you can participate on these dates or not !

Alternatively, you can also grab the full details on the site of the Berkshire Volley Ball Association.

Thanks Andrey!

Recreational 2-a-side league

Hey folks,

Kertsin, our magic social secretary, has been… well she had a dream… :-)

“Hello Volleyballers

The beach volleyball season is over and we have to wait another year to get out there again.
This shouldn’t prevent us from still playing 2 a side.

I recently thought about setting up a recreational 2 a side league for everybody who finds a partner and fancies a challenge.

We could play at my work gym (Unipart at Oxford Cowley) on badminton lines and a slack net (doesn’t that sound fantastic?).

Seriously, it’s a small court and a funny net but after all a brilliant opportunity to have a good 2 on 2 volley match.

The court costs about £2.50 per person per hour (in the past we played 2-3 hours and only paid £2.50 per person – and I’m sure I can make this a deal with the gym manager).

The sports hall is empty most nights (open till 9pm) and there are changing and showering facilities on site).

How would it work?

You find a partner (mixed sex teams allowed) and agree on evenings and times you could potentially play. You then send an email back to me that you would like to participate and which days would be best for you.

I will consequently have an idea of who is interested and can set up a ladder.

If there are enough teams I will try and book the sports hall regularly for one or two evenings per week.

The ladder works that each team has a rank and you can challenge the team that is above you or two places above you. You then play a match and if you win you swap places.”

Good idea no !? What do you think? Let her know: oxfordvolleyball@googlemail.com

More details will follow shortly.

Cheers,

Julien

…more pictures…finally…

Hey folks,

I finally got round to update the photos page with our recent counts of all sorts.

So in no particular order we have:

  • Simon’s photos of one of our training session

  • Simon’s photos of our Croyde weekend back in May

  • Kerstin’s photos of the same weekend in Croyde

A bit old but it’s only a beginning… more will soon follow. All of this is available from here or from the “OurPhotos” link on the top of this page

New season ahead!

Dear all,

A new season is starting and the good old habits need to be kept in…

So once again, despite our best effort to keep this as low as minimum, we will need your help (and money) to make this club running.

To this effect I’ve now updated the Membership & Fees page for the year 09/10. You can find all the information here.

So bring along your cheque, cash, dough, Benjamins, jacks, smackers, smackaroos, lettuce, chedda, greenback, loot, woot and other legal tender to training in order to pay Martijn, our very own financial controller!
