Last Sunday (26 October), Oxford Eagles travelled to Reading to play
against Spikeopaths 1 and Maidenhead. Having only five of the
regular players (Karina, Maite, Victoria, Asia, Stef), our team was
completed by Elena (thanks a lot for helping out!). And of course thanks
to Neil, who did again a good job in coaching us.
- Karina (middle) did some very clever tipping and strong blocking
- Victoria (middle) did some nice long hits in the corners
- Asia (outside) was incredibly speedy when chasing the ball
- Elena (outside) got used to the rotations really quickly and showed some strong hitting
- Maite (setter) showed great setting and is clearly improving on the left-handed hitting
- Stef (setter) had a strong service and very good defence
First game: Maidenhead v Eagles
A
determined Oxford team came on court and, with some strong hitting and
blocking as well as strong serving, we won the first set 25:17. We kept
our rhythm also in the second set, which we won quite easily by 25:15.
(MVP: Karina).
Second game: Spikeopaths 1 v Eagles
After
a extremely close loss against Spikeos two weeks ago, we really wanted
to win this time. With some good passing and hitting, we we won the
first set 25:20. In the second set, Spikeos came back stronger and we
struggled to find our rhythm and lost 16:25.
In the final set we started well and managed to get a lead of 5 points
before we lost 6 points due to a strong server from Spikeos. Although we
fought for every single point, we lost by 15:17 (MVP: Stefanie).
